Guide to Taking the Accuplacer Tests

Introduction

ACCUPLACER assessments provide you and Granite State College with useful information about your academic skills in reading comprehension, sentence skills, arithmetic and algebra. The results of assessments, in conjunction with your academic background, goals, and interests, will be used by your academic advisor and you to determine your course selection. It is very important that you do your very best on these tests so that you will have an accurate measure of your academic skills.

Academic Coaching is available on your campus to help you prepare for the Accuplacer Assessment.  Workshops are available to help you obtain the skills necessary to do your best.

Reading Comprehension

• Accuplacer Online Practice Tests - choose the Reading Comprehension test from the drop down menu at the bottom of the page.
• Practice Tests (Main Menu) - choose your test from the menu
• Reading Comprehension Preparation Test - this site is actually about preparing for the GRE exam but it works very well for the Accuplacer reading comprehension test also. After finishing each test you need to click “Submit” to get your score. By clicking on “Explain” next to your incorrect answers you will receive an explanation for the correct answer.
• Accuplacer Test Prep Review - you will have to scroll down to the practice tests. There are several different modules. Some that you can do are Basic Reading Comprehension, Reading for the Main Idea, and Advanced Reading Comprehension. The correct answers are listed at the end of each test.

Sentence Skills

• Accuplacer Test Prep Review - You will have to scroll down to the practice tests. There are several different modules. Some that you might do are Basic Grammar, Intermediate Grammar, and Advanced Grammar. Also the Usage Tests 1, 2, and 3 might be helpful. The correct answers are listed at the end of each test.

Basic Algebra

• Accuplacer Test Prep Review - you will have to scroll down to the practice tests. There are two different modules for the algebra practice test. They are Basic Algebra and Advanced Algebra. The correct answers are listed at the end of each test.
• Accuplacer Algebra Practice Tests - you can do these tests in order or skip around.
• Algebra Practice Placement Exam - the evaluation is by question. The correct answer will be highlighted
