| Carol has been a familiar
face around Granite State College for a number of years. First, as a Self-Design
graduate with a degree in Educational Media and Technology and later, after earning
her Masters Degree in Mass Communication at Emerson College, as an instructor of
communication courses at Granite State College.
In addition to her student/instructor
association with GSC, she was the Statewide Coordinator for the Interactive Television
(ITV) system when the college delivered courses via remote interactive television
sites. It was that initial exposure to distance learning that prompted her transition
over into online instruction.
Carol’s favorite teaching
experience in the online environment is Interpersonal Communication. “My students
initially can’t see how we can have an interpersonal connection without meeting
face-to-face. However, they are usually pleasantly surprised when they begin interacting
with their fellow learners in cyberspace and see how vital the Internet is in our
modern-day communication processes.”
During semesters Carol travels
between Maine and Florida using Internet access to continue her teaching assignments
wherever she resides. “I love having the opportunity to work with so many
interesting and talented individuals. Lifelong learning is exciting!”
When not online, her two favorite
pastimes are being with her 2-year-old granddaughter and enjoying a day on the water
in her kayak.
