My name is Marilyn McGair and I will be your instructor for this online course. Our journey through the learning experience will be both interesting and challenging. As with other areas of the technology, this field is constantly changing and growing. We will be examining these changes as well as the fundamentals and more advanced topics.
The needs/goals of the learner have become the focus of my teaching philosophy. Students have a strong desire to learn new skills and achieve new levels of knowledge/experience. This course will focus on assisting you to accomplish these goals in a supportive environment.
Since becoming engulfed in the computer revolution of the 1990’s through experience in the legal and insurance fields, I have focused a good deal of time and energy on learning and sharing the latest technologies. I received a BA in Political Science from Providence College and a JD from Suffolk University. I also hold post-grad certificates in Networking, Client/Server/Visual Basic and E-Commerce/Web technologies from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
I have been teaching for Granite State College Seacoast Centers in the Computer Area – such courses as Computer and Network Systems, Software Tools I & II, GUI Programming with Visual Basic, Visual Basic Programming I, III, Human Computer Interaction, Introduction to Programming, Advanced Web Development, Web Sites that Work, User Centered Web Development, Introduction to Computers as well as Introduction to Computers and the Internet. Prior to teaching at Granite State College, I have taught various seminars and classes throughout southern New England as well as at Johnson and Wales College.
I look forward to working with you in this course.
