Patty Summers grew up in northern New Hampshire, where she
attended a two-room school. She holds a BA in English and
an MFA in writing from George Mason University and has done
postgraduate work in literature. She spent her career in
Washington, DC as a senior technical editor and writer;
she also does private writing and technical editing, has
worked as a freelance journalist, and works at the Stratford
town office. She is a member of the Society for Technical
Communication and NH Municipal Management Association.
Since returning to this area
a number of years ago, Patty has been teaching at GSC and its predecessor. Prior
to that, she taught at Central Texas College. Courses she has taught for us include
Creative Writing (including sci-fi), Expository Writing, Modern American Novel,
American Short Fiction, Multicultural Literature, Critical Thinking, Nature Writing,
Philosophy, and Journal as Literature.
Patty
built her own small retreat in the north woods, where she
writes fiction and poetry and draws or paints a little—her
son, Kevin, is also a writer, and both are sci-fi fans.
Her hobbies include reading and growing a few flowers and
vegetables, which she enjoys sharing with neighbors.
