Mark
Watman holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Writing and Literature
from the Bennington College Writing Seminars. Prior to joining
the teaching profession, Mark held numerous odd jobs including
stints as a bartender, a used bookstore manager, a blueberry
picker, and a political campaign manager. As a poet and non-fiction
writer, Mark's writings have appeared in numerous national
publications. Currently he is in the process of revising a
new manuscript of poems The Virtuosity of Go and has just
started a collection of essays on the Black Mountain Poets.
Mark has also taught literature and writing courses at a variety
of liberal arts colleges including Franklin Pierce College,
Keene State College, Colby-Sawyer College and Granite State
College.
"Sharing a discourse about the written word is always a challenging
and fruitful experience, but here at Granite State College
the adult students possess a wealth of experiences and insights
that prove especially valuable in an online learning community.
Much like the language itself, we as writers are continually
evolving and growing. Fostering this growth through the written
word (through postings, email, and real time chat) seems more
than just worthwhile. In an online classroom the emphasis
is always turning back to the reason we are here: to focus
on the written word through the written word. It is as valuable
an experience in teaching and learning as I can imagine."
