What is my MyGranite username and password?

NOTE: GSC students, faculty, and staff will have a MyGranite account created automatically as they enter the GSC system. The account remains active while you are at GSC.

Your MyGranite username is the same as your GSC USERNAME (IT ID), also known as your GSC E-mail username. To determine your username:

  1. Go to MyGranite at http://blackboard.granite.edu/
  2. Click the Login Help tab toward the top of the MyGranite screen
  3. If you have never entered MyGranite, click on New user? and follow the instructions to retrieve your username and create a password.
  4. If you have used MyGranite but forgot your username or password, click on Need Help Logging in? and follow the instructions.

Portal Password Protocol - Tips for Setting Your Password

Because the Granite State College portal uses single sign on (where you will have access to lots of information via one user account), a strong password is required. A strong password is one that is difficult for someone else to figure out.

Your GSC portal password must contain the following:

  • a minimum of 7 characters
  • at least 1 uppercase letter
  • at least 1 lowercase letter
  • at least 1 digit (0-9)
  • at least 1 of the following symbols: % * + - _ . : ; , = ? ! / \ [ ] ~ ^ |

Having trouble thinking of a password that meets the strong password criteria?

Use these steps and the password worksheet to develop a strong password:

  1. Think of a sentence that you can remember. This will be the basis of your strong password. Use a memorable sentence, such as "My son Aiden is three years old."
  2. Convert the sentence to a password. Take the first letter of each word of the sentence that you've created to create a new, nonsensical word. Using the example above, you'd get: "msaityo".
  3. Add complexity by mixing uppercase and lowercase letters and numbers. This might yield a password like "MsAi3yo".
  4. Finally, substitute some special characters. You can use symbols that look like letters, combine words (remove spaces) and other ways to make the password more complex. Using these tricks, we create a password. You can also us a symbol such as = for the word "is". "MsA=3y0"
